One Click Away! The revolution of digital music in Bangladesh Digital Music has swept the entire world in recent years. Who knew that the three-letter word MP3 (Mpeg-1 Audio Layer 3 Format), developed in 1999 would spark off a digital music revolution? Now, listening to ones favourite tunes is literally a click away. Faysal Islam and Faizul Khan Tanim writes about how the revolution started, its current state and the impact it has had worldwide. Iami has a daily habit of listening to music early in the morning. He heard from his friends about an album, but, didn’t manage the time to listen to it. He sits in front of his PC with his coffee and logs on to his favourite online music store and searches for that album. It’s right there on the front page and he proceeds to buy it online. Socially conscious citizens and groups are trying to unite young people against a carefully orchestrated move aimed at unhinging the democratic entity. I could not help myself but join to see one such youth movement on December 16, in front of Words n Pages bookshop in Gulshan-2. The banner under which they were hosting a musical program, clearly read: We don’t want to clean your mess; we just want to live our dreams. This line motivated the people to stop and ask a few questions. It needs to be mentioned that, recently, this bookshop has begun a move to become an ideal ground for young people to discuss about social problems and political anomalies. So, are you aware of the political situation of the country? Are you at all interested about the incendiary evening news shown daily on television? Think about it…ever since you were born, you have known Bangladesh to be a cauldron of corruption, mass killings, bribery and dishonesty! Indeed, the list of irregularities can go on and on. Ever since you were born, you’ve seen your parents take part in heated conversations, expressing their anger towards thieves disguised as ministers; ever since you were born, you’ve witnessed every single person criticise the ‘SYSTEM’. Are you still not interested in whatever that’s going on outside your cosy home? Well, the time has come for you to stop complaining (or simply JUST listening to them) and
