So what are you listening to this Eid?

So what are you listening to this Eid?

Faizul Khan Tanim explores the different tunes that the audio market is offering this Eid. From hip to smooth, it looks like this Eid there is a song for everyone

Festivals like Eid can’t get any better with new and fresh music. This holiday, the city-dwellers can certainly expect some great and spicy tunes.
The audio market during holidays almost always has something exclusive to offer but this time the collection is vast and distinct. Tune in to our audio market of Bangla songs and you will see the different flavours of tunes and songs.
This year’s Eid collection is a huge array of different genre of music- the kind that can cater everyone’s taste. From the head banging rock music, amazing fruity remixes of pop, folk, electronic music, blues and psychedelic music along with a number of experimental fusion works of different topnotch artistes- the audio industry is offering music for almost anyone.
Till date, Eid-ul-Fitr is still associated with the immortal verse and tune of O mor romjan er oi rojar shesh e elo khushir eid and every year, there is a new remix of this song, added with interesting sound inclusions. For example, we would not be amazed if this year’s version of the track has DJ scratchy sound with plenty of hip hop beats.
In recent times, most record labels work with their preferred group of artistes and more importantly, in their preferred sound and genre. For example, G-Series is releasing mainly rock, band, and some fusion pop albums while Soundtek and Sangeeta are doing a lot of solo albums and their focus is on pop and folk. Laser Vision is releasing very creative fusion pop albums, their biggest artist being Habib. Gaanchill Media Ltd is releasing the much anticipated pop albums of Close-Up 1 stars. And after a long break, the record label CMV came out with a bang to release acclaimed cult hero James’s solo album Tufan. Bengal Music, the latest addition to the rat race, have come out with albums Jhalmuri 1 and 2, catering to enthusiasts listening to new and imaginative sounds.
The tunes which are playing in almost all the major audio stores, are Habib and Shireen’s Na jene bhul bujhon .pran e betha diona or Roshik telkajala, oi lal kurtawala, dili boro jala re panjabiwala and James’s Shuru hoi dukheri punorai uthhan dum du and uthechey tufan ei buk jurey. Although these are the hottest sounds, others are doing equally great as well.
Laser Vision’s albums are Balam’s self-titled solo album, a mixed album ‘Bhalo Toh?’ and of course Habib featuring Shireen’s Panjabiwala.
G-Series has a huge array of albums. ‘We are hopeful with our albums since we have developed a huge listener base for our sounds. Our albums for this Eid are band Vibe’s debut album Chena Jogot, Sumon featuring Anila, Tahsan’s fourth studio compilation Pathorer Golpokar, Fuad featuring Mila’s Chapter Two, Topu of Yaatri’s first solo album Bondhu Hobo Ki, Milon Mahmud’s Charidikey Kolahol, Dalchut’s Jochona Bihar, the abar jingai famed group Stoic Bliss’s second studio album Kolponar Baire and mixed albums Underground 2 by Kamal (Aurthohin), Neon Aloy Swagotom by Zia (Shironamhin), Utshorgo by Nomon and more’.
Vibe’s album already has one of the biggest hit songs of this Eid called Nostalgia and from the G-Series list - after the huge success of the song Ghum Ashena in the album Boka Manushta, Sumon is featuring Anila for a whole studio album. Then, from albums boasting interesting sounds and crisp production of Fuad and Stoic Bliss, we can expect wonderful compilations. G-Series and Arshee’s concern Agniveena also released a mixed album Ke Akey Onno Chobi and it is already a buzzing commodity in the audio market.
The market leaders Soundtek and Sangeeta are releasing some great albums as well. Soundtek, in its roster of releases, has – Asif’s solo project and another joint venture album with Close-Up 1 star Sonia called Mon Pobon er Nao.
Then there is Hridoy Bhangar by Khalid, Biday by Bappa Majumder and Khalid, Abar Pothey Dekha – a mixed album by Anjan Dutt, Bappa Majumder and SI Tutul, Polash’s Rong Mohol and Shonge Niyo Amake, an album by Tutul and Khalid.
Sangeeta’s list of mainly folk compilations contain SI Tutul’s Proshno, Shanto and Momtaj’s Koto Bhalobashi Tomay, Shahid’s Bondhur Bhalobasha, comedian Kajol’s narrative humour album - Kajol er Shongshkar (Kajol’s Reform), Monir Khan and Nasir’s Amar Ki Dosh? and more.
CloseUp-1 supporting label Gaanchill has in their roster – Khoka O Hobey Buro by Biplob (Prometheus), Bari Siddiqi’s Bhaber Deshey, Close-Up1 stars Feriwala by Rashed, Lalon Konna by Beauty, and Boka – a compilation of Prince Mahmud and Close-Up1 stars.
Wahidur Rahman, in-charge of Bangla section in Fahim Music at Banani says Ornob, Fuad, Habib and Tahsan’s albums are already doing fantastic in the suburbs Gulshan, Banani, Mohakhali and Baridhara. These artistes are mainly attracting listeners with their extremely versatile vocals and the compact happy sounds.
Almost no celebration is complete without music, as it sets the mood and sways your mind. So, pull out some of your favorite music this holiday and start listening to it- not just the music, but the lyrics as well. It is important to remember that Eid is all about family, friends, devotion and feeling good about our individual harmony and sounds.
