loves food and he loves music. He takes his passion to new heights as he compares his favourite numbers of different Bangladeshi bands to different forms of world-famous cheese

Did it ever occur to you how the process of making varieties of cheese is like producing different genres of creative contemporary music? The formula of success in producing both these products – cheese and contemporary music, require great art and craftsmanship and the great secret lies in making them with varying recipes, and trade secrets, so that they become more desirable with all the delicious deviations.

This cheese affair makes me realise how the different genres and breed of contemporary music are produced and transferred in to essential silver discs of pure enjoyment, just as cheese makes exciting and mouth watering stomach trips.

Now here are ten essential songs compared to ten essential types of cheese, which are unique in their own way and gives us exciting kicks up on tasting each bits and pieces.


Obinoshshor by Black

When Black produced Obinoshshor, it was the first nu-metal song and the first sound of alternative rock, which assailed our senses just like blue cheese.

Yes! Obinoshshor was as good as blue cheese, not pressed hard so that the curd can gel and form loosely packed pieces, leaving space for the mould to grow and get all the air and turn in to blue colour. More over, the blue cheese is aided by piercing stainless steel needles to create tunnels to allow air in to the body of the cheese to develop the attractive blue mould picture.

When Obinoshshor was aided with injecting mind blowing guitar processor effects and playing, exciting drumming and punchy vocals, it tasted like a slice of good blue cheese satisfaction.


Odhbhut Shei Cheleti by Aurthohin

This song tastes like fresh and stretched curd mozzarella cheese made from the milk of water buffalo. The curd is kneaded in hot water to give a beautifully stretched and elastic texture so that when melted, it becomes an essential ingredient for pizza.

When I first listened to Odhbhut Shei Cheleti, it was an orb of different acoustic sounds, much like a ball of mozzarella.

The claim to fame of mozzarella however is the elastic texture of the cheese just as the song’s sounds stretches and shrinks back with an ending of mouth organ sound – this track is really a delightful piece of melted mozzarella in your mouth.


Tomar Ghorey Bash Kore by Bangla

Smoked cheese gained its popularity due to the smoking of the product as a means of preservation, which gives it a lasting lifetime. Therefore, when Bangla remixed the song Tomar Ghorey with new sound and flavour, it was as if a ball of cheese was smoked in low temperature (perfect warmth) so that the cheese is not overcooked, but brings some of the elegant fat to the surface. This, together with the deposits from the smoke vapour, provides a striking and distinguishing colour to the cheese just like the instrumentation, and powerful vocals brought an immortal song out of a cave.


Odekha Shorgo by Artcell

Now, this song has become almost anthemic for head bangers all over the country. The power and characteristic of the song spread like wildfire when released in the mixed album Chcharpotro, just like the aroma and prowess of good ol’ cheddar cheese baked over delicious thick crusts.

Cheddar is renowned for its sharp, appetising nutty flavour, and a dense buttery texture. Orange-colored and most widely consumed product of its kind, it brings a strong cheese character, which fits all the descriptions of how the composition of Odekha Shorgo bursts in to a fiery ball of angst, followed by dense vocal and musical instrumentation.


Gari Cholena by Dalchchut

Camembert, a world-renowned French cheese best describes the song Gari Cholena because it has that essential native flavour - soft and ripened, smells mild to pungent, tastes much like Brie (another type of cheese from the French province Brie), but more sharp in flavour and richer in texture with edible crust.

The most widely marketed of all French cheeses; this cheese reminds of Gari Cholena, which sports a mellow composition, widely accepted for its simple composition, folk-ish lyrics, and unique vocals making it sound like one of the most optimistically arrogant songs and tasting like a slice of camembert over fresh baked apple tart.


Abar Jigay by Stoic Bliss

Abar Jigay sounds and tastes essentially like soft cheese. Report has that this cheese is made by souring milk that is cooked until the curd separates. They are then drained over a period of several days and allowed to mature and then placed over heat with small amount of cream, salt, and often butter. When Stoic Bliss works with so much sound, the result is a cube of rich and creamy…soft and mouth full of cheese - Abar Jigay!


Hashimukh by Shironamhin

Feta is another such salty, creamy, crumbly, but sliceable Greek cheeses with plenty of native appeal just like the song Hashimukh. The cheese becomes drier and saltier with age and maturity. Made of sheep’s milk, this is the most widely eaten of all the Greek cheeses. A cheese used with appetisers and is a great ingredient in cooking, or with green salads.

Similarly, Hashimukh, equipped with a folk vocals and western singing style, with plenty of native instrumental sound - it delivers an urgent song, ready to accompany an instant meal.


Meye by Yaatri

The warm music composition and lyrics of Meye reminds me of cottage cheese - mild, soft, moist, made of large or small curd, white, very porous, absorbs salts just like Meye absorbs plenty of human emotion. Used for appetizers, fruit salads, snacks and a very important ingredient in making scrumptious kebab rolls, the very way Meye melts in our everyday emotional life.


Rong by The Watson Brothers

Although several different cheeses fall under this name, Vacherin Mont d’Or is a premium quality Swiss cheese made only once a year in Switzerland. It is an incredible gently spoon-able, fragrant dessert cheese. A noted characteristic of it is that it starts out mild but will become stronger as it matures just like the song Rong, which sounds better with every listen one gives.

Bullshit by Subconscious

Although the song exists no one knows the whereabouts of this band anymore. Fresh soft cheese or pantysgawn goats cheese (Abergavenny); have high moisture content and a limited shelf life. This cheese is made by souring the milk, then straining the curd or passing it through a separator to remove much of the moisture, giving a white, crumbly, but soft spread able product. The flavour is mildly acidic.

And so does the song Bullshit. It was one of the first produced ‘happy songs’ which was initially censured for its lyrical and musical content but has later, greatly inspired many well-known bands to produce such songs which brings the funny side to life.
