Aromas of the world - sipping on a hot cup of warmth

Faizul Khan Tanim gets emotional sipping a cup of coffee in the new café, North End

Organic Ethiopia Sidamo, Ethiopia washed Sidamo, Sumatra Mandheling, Brazil, French Roast, Decaf Sumatra, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Hill Tract Blend - choose the coffee beans from a wide selection and have it brewed to your taste. At North End Coffee Roasters, the aroma of the roasting beans, cozy décor and friendly staff comes together to bring you the finest cup of coffee in town.

The café opened in March this year and is run by the Hubbards, Rick, the barista and Chris, the pastry chef, who are not just coffee connoisseurs but passionate about what they serve, which is the very best coffee in town.

North End offers premium quality single-origin coffees from around the world and also has a special blend of locally-grown in the Chittagong Hill Tracts coffee. The Hubbards hope to encourage the growth of coffee culture and build a sense of community around their cafe.

Rick Hubbard has years of experience as a Starbucks certified coffee master, as well as with the Leopard Forest Coffee Company as a coffee roaster, and is a Barista Guild Certified barista and a member of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA). He is training the local staff to brew coffee the right way, use the espresso equipment, plus imparting the skills that make a good barista. In a nutshell, sharing and teaching all the information related to coffee and run a coffee parlor.

He stated, “Our emphasis is on quality roasting and partnering with farmers in Chittagong to bring the best possible coffee grown locally. This blend of Chittagong coffee has been carefully mixed with quality Arabica beans from around the world in a tasteful blend. This not only will cultivate investment prospects but brew fantastic coffee culture as well”.

The place sets the mood for good conversation, as he explained the significance of fresh brewed coffee “Roasted coffee is at its best in the first 7-10 days after which the flavour begins to decline, so, it has a short shelf life despite the best packaging. It is always better to buy small amounts of coffee for use over a short period of time, for example one week and once the local coffee parlors fix these basics, coffee experience will be enchanting”.

The missus, Chris, bakes delicious pastry and cakes such as cinnamon rolls, brownies, and coffee cookies and is busy training the local staff to make them the way she does. She had this to say, “Pastry and coffee compliment each other. They literally highlight the flavour of one another to ensure there is music in your mouth and every sip or bite is special.”

The prices are affordable too, single espresso is Tk 65, Tk 87 for double, lattes are Tk 96, mocha and white mocha Tk 126, the cinnamon rolls Tk 110 and brownies Tk 35 (all prices exclusive of VAT) and that is what makes North End the place to be for good food, coffee and company.
