Iron Man-3: All’s well that ends well? ….NOT!

Iron Man-3: All’s well that ends well? ….NOT!
 By Faizul Khan Tanim

If Iron Man (IM) is a trilogy, then part three is the perfect example of how the last of the three instalments MUST NOT end but if there is a part four then ardent fans expect Jon Favreau be brought back in to action behind the lenses rather than playing ‘Happy’.

Moreover, if you believe in the phrase ‘morning shows the day’ then you’d be disappointed by how the film kicks in with the intro music I’m Blue by Eiffel 65…got the fans puzzled if we mistakenly swapped halls and watching a Chinese Kung-Fu film or a wrongly dubbed movie instead of IM-3? I mean for God’s sake where’s AC/DC or Black Sabbath? And then we realize that it is IM-3 with its semi Terminator-2 rip-off schemes; inappropriate ‘freaking out’ syndromes; no one home inside the Iron Man armours; bad dialogues; an almost fake-Mandarin sporting a villain as hilarious as Admiral General Aladeen and to top it off, Tony Stark blows up all his suits to prove that Pepper Potts means the world to him.

With part three made this imperfect, I wonder how Tony Stark and Iron Man will be carried on to The Avengers-2, Joss will definitely have tough time bringing the mojo of IM back to cover up the disasters left in IM-3. I mean, there was very little Iron Man in the whole film and the acting has been reduced surprisingly to a minimum.

Speaking to a fervent comics and super hero fan and a journalist/writer in this genre, Syd Tashfin Chowdhury said, “Actually I found 'The Dark Knight Rises' like a slap on the face of the average Batman comic book reader as it seemed like a mix-and-match of nearly six to seven different events in the DC Universe. For example, Bane breaking Batman's back happened in the Knightfall event. The involvement of Talia Al Ghul with Batman was in another storyline. The part of Gotham cut off from the rest of the world, leading to anarchy, was the 1999 'No man's land' storyline. For a while I thought Blake (Joseph Gordon Levitt) would turn out to be Azrael, a vigilante who was also a thorn on Batman's side. But fortunately that did not happen.”

“A similar drift-off has been done with Iron Man 3. The fans of Iron Man love to hate the Mandarin. So, when they had read that Kingsley would play the noted character, they were nonetheless ecstatic. But mashing the Extremis storyline with Mandarin wasn't something that Iron Man followers were looking forward to. But that is what Shane Black is all about. Sadly, he tried to make a Lethal Weapon out of Iron Man 3”, Chowdhury added.

What ticks off the fans even more is the clip after the end credits rolled. Stark is seen explaining The Hulk/Dr Banner how his life was in an awful misery and due to the boring content, Banner kept dozing off. Was this funny at all or gives a clue on how Avengers-2 might become?

If anyone googles ‘How Iron Man-3 should have ended on YouTube’, one will realize that the mockery could not be done properly since the film is bad enough. One of the worst superhero films and in the league of Daredevil (2003), Elektra (2005), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), Green Lantern (2011)…What Tony Stark should not have done during the beginning of the film was flaunt his extreme ego and give his home address to the world media. We hope The Avengers-2 will bring the true Iron Man back and will do justice to Robert Downey.
